The Cut Hill

From generation to generation, it has been rumored that a prosperous mine called La Veta existed on the cut-out hill. In those times, 1920, in that mine they did not have machinery like now, not even a well to extract water, where the miners could manage to process the work of the find, mainly the gold.

The owners of that mine deposit had donkeys to transport large stones for milling and washing the dirt. But all that process had to be done in another mine that was long miles away. The animals walked through the high mountains through narrow trails to reach the other renowned mine, which was also where the extraction of the ore.

In that nearby mine they did have a large mill to crush rocks, and, in addition, they had a water well, where they could wash the earth from both mines. The locals say that large amounts of gold were extracted from these two places, and that they even found pieces of the precious metal “Gold” the size of the fist of a hand. The two mines were very prosperous.

This is how people talk about what their ancestors experienced for wanting to prospect those places, which were very vast and what they explored was minimal. Years later, other miners returned to those same places. They became owners of those claims. First, they dedicated themselves to recreating what the La Veta mine was in those years, but this time attracting tourists who were passionate about mining exploration.

Then they continued extracting what they did not finish at the time, this time with more sophisticated machinery, but with the same impetus of the gold rush of past centuries. Even so, it is said that this place continued to be prosperous, exploring the other part of the hill. The new owner of the land became a millionaire and recreation in gold prospecting became another tourist attraction in the region. What the visitors experienced was great, because they say they will remember it the rest of their live.

The La Veta mine returned to operation, but with the instruction of finishing off the other part of the hill that, at the time, had been left pending in the 1920s. That will not be forgotten for so many wonderful little places that were yet to be explored in that natural wonder. That mine, La Veta, left them good experiences and lessons extracting gold, giving the visitors the opportunity to obtain the other half of the hill. Those who enjoyed this great adventure will continue to remember it for future generations.
