Until I Die, My Argentina

Lucy had turned 96 years old. She was in the care of her niece Julieta, who provided her with everything she needed in her daily life. Also, for the elderly woman’s pleasure, the two began to talk about their personal lives; these were just hits, of course. Both one and the other had much to say; but yes, Lucy had much more to tell.

One day, the elderly woman told Julieta that, when she lived in Argentina, she was a professional ballet dancer, and even that, between her and her younger sister, they had a dance academy, where they themselves were the teachers.

The lady really enjoyed remembering that time, back in her native country, because she was passionate about dancing ballet, she said. Lucy would be 17 years old at the time. At that age she was a young woman with great skill for dance. Lucy said that, when she made her presentations in public, everyone applauded her, leaving the spectator satisfied with the execution of the classical dance.

That performance of the elderly woman in her academy and professional life as a dancer was so exciting that, one day, Julieta remembered everything that Lucy had told her. And, at that moment, she took her phone and searched for a video in which a young woman appeared dancing to the same classical music that Lucy loved to dance to when she was young. Julieta put the phone in Lucy’s hands so that she could appreciate the video.

She was sitting very calm and very attentive watching the video and, as the performance of the dance progressed, Lucy said: “I danced so beautifully! The theater filled up and everyone applauded me. They always liked my presentation.”

The video she watched it all, and, what was the surprise that, when it was finished, the phone screen turned black, for the reason that the screen rest was activated, that’s when Lucy was reflected on the screen. Then, Lucy was able to look at herself as she was today. And the only thing she could express was: ”Oh, how I have changed! How many years have passed!”… ”Well, art is beautiful; but it’s over when it’s over… Lucy looked at herself in the phone screen as if it had been a mirror.
